According to Peter King of NBC Sports, the Kansas City Chiefs could be looking to trade up to take University of Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs III in the first round of the NFL Draft this week.

Based on how the Chiefs evaluate wideouts, their interest in Ruggs hardly comes as a surprise.

Ruggs ran a 4.27-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine back in February, which fits the profile of speed Kansas City receivers such as Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman, the latter of which the Chiefs took in the second round last year.

The 21-year-old spent three years at Alabama, arriving at the school in 2017. He had an interesting freshman campaign, with six of his 12 catches going for touchdowns. But overall, his playing time was limited.

The following year, Ruggs' role grew, as he hauled in 46 receptions for 711 yards and 11 scores. He then posted similar numbers during his junior season, snaring 40 balls for 746 yards while reaching the end zone seven times. He also added a rushing touchdown.

Given the fact that Patrick Mahomes loves to fling the ball downfield, Ruggs would seem to fit into Kansas City's offense perfectly. It would also give the Chiefs an incredibly deep receiving corps that includes Hill, Sammy Watkins, Hardman, Demarcus Robinson and Ruggs.

Kansas City won 12 games and captured its fourth straight AFC West division title this past year. The Chiefs then went on to win their first Super Bowl since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, topping the San Francisco 49ers.
