After trading away Tyreek Hill, the Kansas City Chiefs hope to remain competitive in the league. With Patrick Mahomes under center, this franchise should be fine. Even so, the front office has a chance to address each hole on the roster. We take a dive into what the Chiefs might do in the 2022 NFL Draft with three bold predictions.
The rushing attack hasn't been as dominant as it could be, which doesn't help Kansas City in their search for another Super Bowl win. Although Clyde Edwards-Helaire is young, this franchise may be looking for another running back for the backfield. Furthermore, the front office might be able to find a new receiver to play alongside Travis Kelce and Juju Smith-Schuster.
However, most of the problems are on the defensive side of the ball. With two first-round picks, the Chiefs have a chance to reel in legitimate talent to improve the defense. If the front office can pull it off, then Kansas City should remain atop of a loaded AFC West division.
With that said, here are three bold Chiefs predictions for the 2022 NFL Draft.
Chiefs Predictions for the 2022 NFL Draft
3. The front office selects one of the top two running back prospects
Running back isn't a dire need for the Chiefs, but they can certainly improve their offense with one of the top three rookie prospects this year. Edwards-Helaire hasn't quite lived up to expectations, as he's routinely outplayed by backup veterans. Now could be the time for Kansas City to find a suitable rusher to share the backfield with Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Two running back prospects who have received the most attention throughout the draft process are Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker. They're easily the top two in this position group and would likely play well in Kansas City. The Chiefs can potentially select one of these exciting rookies in the second or third round and receive a massive boost to the rushing attack.
2. Kansas City finds Tyreek Hill's replacement in round two
Article Continues BelowTyreek Hill is gone, but Patrick Mahomes will likely be fine. He still has Travis Kelce and Juju Smith-Schuster at his disposal. Even so, it'd be nice to see the Chiefs acquire a rookie receiver to keep the offense as competitive as possible. Multiple analysts have mocked a wide receiver to this franchise in the first round, but there should be some solid prospects in round two.

George Pickens, Jahan Dotson, and Skyy Moore stand out as potential suitors for the Chiefs. Each of them has showcased solid route running and catching abilities. For that reason, they would be fantastic options for Kansas City if they fall into the second round. Even so, the front office might have to trade up in round two to select one of these prospects.
1. Chiefs load up on defense in the first round of the NFL Draft
With picks 29 and 30, Kansas City has the opportunity to address two major problems on the defense. This team needs help on the defensive line as well as in the secondary. For that reason, it'd be wise of the Chiefs to take a defensive back and an edge rusher back-to-back.
After losing Tyrann Mathieu in free agency, the Chiefs can immediately replace him with Jalen Pitre. The young cornerback has been compared to Mathieu frequently throughout the draft process, which is great news for Kansas City. Furthermore, the front office should aim to reel in one of the many talented edge rushers late in the first round. Someone like Jermaine Johnson II would be a tremendous fit for this franchise.
