The Kansas City Chiefs will welcome the Indianapolis Colts to Arrowhead Stadium in a matchup that will take place on Sunday Night Football. As football fans around the world tune in, all eyes will be on Patrick Mahomes.
After posting a season where he threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in 2018, most people believed that the Chiefs quarterback was due for regression in 2019. On the contrary, Mahomes has silenced those same people by airing it out for 1,510 yards and 10 touchdowns through the first four games of the season.
The third-year gunslinger has been nothing short of remarkable this season as he has the Chiefs at 4-0 to begin the season. In light of that, Kansas City is one of the three remaining teams in the NFL who is undefeated.
Last week, the Chiefs faced the most adversity that they've had this season against the Detroit Lions. The Lions actually held a 30-27 lead over the Chiefs will nearly two-minutes remaining in the game.
But to no one's surprise, Mahomes efficiently led the offense down the length of the field to score the game-winning touchdown. Now, Mahomes will attempt to continue his momentum versus the Colts in Week 5. With that in mind, here are three bold predictions for the Chiefs quarterback against the Colts.
3. Mahomes Will Throw for 450 Yards
Without a doubt, Mahomes has been the most exciting player to watch in the NFL since 2018. Every single week, the reigning MVP of the NFL seems to pull out a new trick on the field.
Whether it is the no-look passes or 60-yard throws across his body, the Texas Tech product has been nearly unstoppable in the past two seasons. In his first 21 games in his career, Mahomes has thrown for a whopping 6,891 yards.
Over that same span, the Chiefs franchise quarterback has just one game that he's achieved the feat of 450 passing yards. Of course, that game came against the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 in an exhilarating contest that saw the Chiefs lose 54-51.
To the dismay of Colts fans, the strong-armed quarterback will record his second-career 450-yard game on Sunday night.
2. Mahomes Will Throw for Five Touchdowns
Through the first three games of this season, Mahomes had all 10 of the passing touchdowns that he presently has. In Week 4, the Lions were able to prevent him from completing a passing touchdown for the first time since Week 5 of the 2018 season.
Therefore, Kansas City's flashy quarterback is going to be motivated to up his touchdown total in Week 5. Even without scoring a touchdown in Week 4, Mahomes is still the front-runner to repeat as the NFL's MVP in 2019.
To begin the season, Indianapolis has allowed nine passing touchdowns (tied for third-most in the NFL). Considering that, Mahomes is going to have his third-career game that he's thrown for five or more touchdowns in Week 5.
1. Mahomes Will Throw His First Interception of the Season
Along with his uncanny ability to throw the ball anywhere on the field, Mahomes has been able to avoid turning the ball over early in his career. Last year, the 24-year-old quarterback managed to throw only 12 interceptions along with his 50 passing touchdowns.
In the month of September, Mahomes was able to avoid turning the ball over in the Chiefs' first four games. As a matter of fact, the nearly perfect quarterback hasn't thrown a pass to an opposing team since Week 17 of the 2018 season.
Therefore, it has been six games since Mahomes has had an interception in the box score. Sadly, despite the realistic possibility of him having a lights-out performance on primetime television; he will throw his first interception of the season against the Colts.
