Earlier this month, Miami Dolphins wide receiver DeVante Parker suffered a broken finger that has forced him to miss action in the preseason over the last couple of weeks.

According to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN, head coach Adam Gase has voiced that this has also put his return for the season opener against the Tennessee Titans up in the air.

Parker is dealing with an injury that typically takes a few weeks to heal up completely, which has put much uncertainty regarding his status for the season opener. Although there is no clarity in terms if he will play, it does keep the door open to that possibility if he shows some progress in his recovery from the injury. There isn't a pressing timetable, but it's something that Parker is hoping to reach to be on the field when the 2018 campaign begins.

The 25-year-old has the chance to put together a breakout year with the situation in front of him to secure the No.1 wide receiver role in the passing game with Pro Bowler Jarvis Landry now out of the picture after being traded to the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason. Parker has a chance to step into that spot to finally make headway to fulfill his potential as a former first-round selection.

In his first few years in the league, Parker has demonstrated that he can be a highly productive and reliable receiving option, but injuries have limited his impact on the field. He was able to put together a solid 2017 season where he made a career-high 57 catches for 670 receiving yards and a touchdown in 13 games played. Parker has shown flashes of potential and with the No.1 receiving role in the passing game up for grabs it could be his opportunity to establish himself as one of the top young players at his position.
