Over the last several weeks, there has been plenty of talk surrounding Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins as he ventures into free agency for the first time in his career. This has created speculation that the former Washington Redskins starter will be highly pursued by several quarterback-needy teams across the league over the next few weeks.

However, the list of franchises interested in Cousins has reportedly narrowed down as the start of the free agency period draws closer. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, there is an indication that this could come down to a two-team race between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets.

As one league source explained it to PFT, the early sense is that only two teams have shown serious interest in Cousins: The Jets and the Vikings.

It is also believed that other teams have expressed interest in the 29-year-old, but the Jets and Vikings are the only two truly making their intentions known with big bucks. Since the start of the offseason, New York has remained in the picture as a possible landing spot, with rumors of the team being willing to offer a guaranteed deal to Cousins. Gang Green currently holds a league-best $92 million in salary cap space.

Meanwhile, the Vikings have entered the conversation as possibly the favorites to land Cousins despite them having their three options at quarterbacks all heading to the free agent market.

Minnesota could present the most compelling situation for Cousins given that they are coming off their first trip to the NFC Championship game in eight years. They also possess a highly talented roster on both sides of the ball that has put a bright future moving forward.

On top of that, Cousins appears to have acknowledged that both the Jets and Vikings are his only two strong options at this point, as he tagged the teams in his farewell letter to the Redskins on his personal website (they've since been removed).

At this point, there is no true clarity as to what teams truly have a shot at landing Cousins, but it's clear that both the Jets and Vikings will be well in the mix.
