The Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the Seattle Seahawks for what will be an illegitimate Sam Darnold Bowl. However, it sounds like Minnesota will be without Adam Thielen for this matchup.
Thielen, who is 35 years old, is considered a healthy scratch, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. It's not entirely clear why the veteran wide receiver is not playing, as he's been ruled out due to an undisclosed reason.
“Two veterans who are healthy scratches today: Steelers CB Darius Slay and Vikings WR Adam Thielen.”
This will be Thielen's first missed game of the season, as he's participated in all 11 games leading up to the Week 13 matchup against the Seahawks. However, the two-time Pro Bowler has been more of a depth piece for the Vikings, as he's only reeled in eight receptions for 69 yards.
His absence isn't going to affect the offensive play on Sunday, as the team will lean on Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Jalen Nailor in the wide receiver positions. Additionally, TJ Hockenson will lead the way at tight end.
The Vikings will be playing undrafted free agent Max Brosmer at quarterback against the Seahawks, as JJ McCarthy is dealing with a concussion. McCarthy's play has been poor of late, as he only recorded 87 passing yards and two interceptions with a 63.1% completion percentage in the 23-6 Week 12 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Minnesota is currently on a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Seattle is trying to earn its second consecutive win to remain firmly in the mix for the NFC West playoff standings.
