Dalvin Cook came into the season with huge expectations after recovering from a torn ACL last season. The Minnesota Vikings were excited to see what kind of production they could get from him on the ground, but he has had a disappointing start to the 2018 season.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Cook is not expected to play against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a nagging hamstring issue that he has been dealing with.
The report from NFL.com also mentions the rough start that he has had and adds more context to it.
Article Continues BelowSitting out Sunday would continue a rough start to what was supposed to be a promising sophomore season for the former second-round pick out of Florida State. Cook ran for a franchise record 127 yards in his NFL debut and was averaging 88.5 yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry last year before tearing his ACL in Week 4.
There is no denying the huge potential that Cook brings to the field with him. He has the perfect combination of strength and speed and is without question a capable receiver out of the backfield as well.
Minnesota needs to get their second-year running back healthy. Sitting him this week is a tough decision, but they know that a hamstring injury has to be rested. If he can take this week off and come back strong next week, the move will be more than worth it for the Vikings.
Throughout the first four games of the season in Minnesota, Cook has carried the football just 36 times for 98 yards and no touchdowns. He has also caught nine passes for 107 yards this season.
Expect to see Cook take this week off and try to come back stronger next week against the Arizona Cardinals. In the meantime, Latavius Murray will take over the starting running back role for the Vikings.
