Many were skeptical on Cam Newton's fit when he was unexpectedly acquired by the New England Patriots during the offseason. Contrary to speculations, Newton seems to have found and settled in his new home in Foxborough. His attention to “fundamentals and execution” and coachability then earned the praise of his teammates and coaches especially offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
“I have been super impressed with his humility,” he said, via NESN.com. “This guy has accomplished a lot in his career. Being 10 years in the league and doing all the things he has done, coming here and having no familiarity with our coaching style, our system, or the way we do things, I have been incredibly impressed with the way he’s embraced it, looks forward to it, really wants to be coached, wants to be great, wants to improve and is a great example for a lot of our younger players.”
Their partnership seems to have been working great in the early stages of the season as the Patriots currently find themselves with a 2-1 record. Not bad for a team that lost a ton of players to free-agency and opt-outs, not to mention Tom Brady. The team steamrolled past the Miami Dolphins in their opening game via a convincing 21-11 win.
They then held their ground against a dominant Seattle Seahawks squad only to lose on a last-second play by the score of 35-30. Newton then led his team to hand the Las Vegas Raiders their first loss of the season on a 36-20 winning effort.
Despite the win, the 2015 NFL MVP claimed that he wasn't thrilled with how he played against the Raiders. His humility and hunger to prove his worth to everyone are signs of good things to come for the Patriots moving forward.
