For many years, there has been an ongoing narrative around the NFL that once a running back gets into his 30s, his best years are behind him. However, this isn't something that New Orleans Saints star running back Mark Ingram believes will be the case in his career.

According to Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate, Ingram voiced that he believes his career is still on the uptick at the age of 28.

“I feel like my career is ascending,” Ingram said. “I feel like my best ball is ahead of me.”

The Alabama product is coming off his two most productive campaigns, breaking the 1,000 rushing yard mark in both campaigns while playing in every game over that span. In the 2017 season, Ingram earned his second career Pro Bowl nod after recording a career-high 1,124 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns, while also hauling in 58 catches for 416 receiving yards.

He rushed for more than 100 yards four times, highlighted by a 131-yard and three touchdown performance in Week 10 against the Buffalo Bills. That outing put him alongside George Rogers and Ricky Wiliams as the only players in team history to rush for at least 130 yards and three touchdowns in a single game.

What should help Ingram remain highly productive is the emergence of Alvin Kamara, allowing Ingram to not burn out as the primary back. The dynamic duo proved to be the driving offensive force for the Saints this past season, as they became the first running back teammates in NFL history to each record at least 1,500 scrimmage yards in the same season.

This should help ease the wear and tear as Ingram enters his 30s, allowing him to remain as one of the league's most productive running backs. Ultimately, only time will tell if this can truly be the case for Ingram as he enters his 30s.
