New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Williams will be headlining the crop of safeties that are set to enter free agency in the upcoming offseason. He previously concluded a one-year, $10 million deal with the Saints and could look to find a new home in the near future.

In 2021, Williams had a productive season as he tallied 74 combined tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble in 16 games played. Surely enough, a good number of teams will be going after the services of the 25-year-old in order to bolster their secondary units.

With that said, let's take a look at the three best landing spots for Marcus Williams in the upcoming 2022 NFL free agency.

Marcus Williams Free Agency Landing Spots

3. New York Jets

The rebuilding New York Jets have a ton of holes to fill in their roster for the 2022 season. They have yet to find stability in the safety position after trading away Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks last offseason.

Marcus Maye received the franchise tag from the team for 2021 though he eventually went down with a torn Achilles injury in Week 9 of their campaign. Amid his injury situation, it is also not likely for the Florida product to return to the team next season.

Currently, the Jets have a ton of flexibility to acquire notable free agents like Marcus Williams as they have the sixth-largest cap space in the league with $44.7 million. They may not be close to winning as of the moment but the safety will surely get paid if he opts to play for Gang Green next season.

If Williams is going to prioritize securing a larger paycheck then signing with the Jets may not be a bad idea, especially as they head to year two of Robert Saleh's tenure in Florham Park.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

The top priority for the Chiefs in free agency is certainly to re-sign their best safety in Tyrann Mathieu. However, there is still a slight possibility that the three-time Pro Bowler may change his mind and seek to play elsewhere instead.

Additionally, Mathieu is about to be 30-years-old and the Chiefs might want to replenish their roster with younger guys as well. Choosing to go with the 25-year-old Marcus Williams as a potential replacement can also be a viable option for the team at the safety position.

As of the moment, Kansas City can still make a run to acquire his services, given that they can free up cap space by restructuring contracts. However, they may not be able to outbid the other suitors that will also go for Williams in free agency. If the safety would want to contribute to a contending team then playing for the Chiefs at a discounted rate won't be as bad as it seems.

1. Dallas Cowboys

Another team that is in dire need of reinforcements in the safety position would be the Dallas Cowboys. They can potentially lose two safeties in Damontae Kazee and Malik Hooker who are both expected to be unrestricted free agents in the upcoming offseason.

Surely enough, the Cowboys would need to bring in a talented safety like Marcus Williams who can hold his ground and beef up their secondary defense moving forward. At the same time, the former Utah standout can also play a sizable role for a winning team next season, thus putting both parties in a win-win situation.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys are not in great shape as they are $21 million over the salary-cap space for 2022. They should definitely trim some of the cap casualties that they have before they can bring in a guy like Williams.

If the team can successfully make room for the safety then Cowboys fans can expect him to be a solid contributor for their playoff bid next season.
