The New York Jets took on the Denver Broncos and received their third loss in the season. After falling 0-3, it's unknown exactly when New York will earn their first win this year. It's time to continue our NFL takeaways series with a Jets Week 3 takeaway.
This team is an absolute mess right now, but that should have been expected. The only good news for the Jets is they have a young team and a head coach the league is excited about. It's going to be a long process before the Jets become competitive again, as multiple issues need to be addressed.
The run game has been abysmal, but there is a lone bright spot in the backfield. If the Jets can improve their run blocking and create some space, the offense should be able to progress. That would be a nice start for this team to focus on for the remainder of the season. Furthermore, the receiving core has been awful so far, which hasn't helped Zach Wilson in the slightest. Lastly, Wilson has turned the ball over more times than not, but it's not entirely his fault. With that said, here are three Jets Week 3 takeaways from their game against the Broncos.

Jets Week 3 Takeaways
3. Ty Johnson is the best running back on the team
New York has to get the run game going if they hope to generate a better offense. The backfield totaled just 13 rush attempts for just 43 yards. That's it. The Jets essentially played their game against Denver with no run game whatsoever. Furthermore, Ty Johnson has emerged as the team's best running back and he deserves more opportunities.
He only received three carries but had 17 yards on the day. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry, which is much more efficient than anyone else in the backfield. The Jets keep forcing Michael Carter to take the bulk of the workload, but he's been terrible with his touches so far. Robert Saleh should highly consider giving Ty Johnson the starting role, as he's done well whenever his number is called.
2. The receivers might be the worst in the league
The Jets are dropping passes left and right. We're repeatedly seeing Zach Wilson throw a dime to his receiving core just for it to be dropped. Corey Davis looked good in the season opener but has fallen off the face of the earth since then. Additionally, Elijah Moore isn't getting involved, and Braxton Berrios of all people is serving as the most consistent target in New York.
Things need to change and it needs to happen quickly. The Jets could at least be competing in their games if the receivers were to step it up. We'll see if that happens, but expectations should be at an all-time low for the Jets right now.
1. Zach Wilson looks great but his teammates are letting him down
Sure, he's thrown seven interceptions in three games (which is awful), but he's at least trying to make something happen. The offensive line isn't protecting him at all, so Wilson is constantly running for his life nearly every time he drops back to pass.
As mentioned previously, his receiving core isn't helping him out either. Zach Wilson is doing what needs to be done, but his teammates are letting him down right now. It was extremely obvious in the game against the Broncos. This is a young roster under a new regime, so hopefully, they can fix the key issues by next season. Otherwise, we might have another Sam Darnold situation on our hands.
