New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley has been ruled out of his team's Week 8 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a groin injury, according to Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News.
Jets head coach Adam Gase said he will have “better information after the game” about Mosley's future.
Mosley initially suffered the groin injury during the second half of New York's Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He logged nine tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery, a couple of passes defended and a defensive touchdown in that game.
What was originally thought to be a minor issue that would only keep Mosley out for a week or two has obviously developed into a much bigger problem, and with Mosley being such an integral piece, the Jets' defense has suffered, allowing 26 points per game on the season.
Article Continues BelowNew York signed Mosley to a five-year, $85 million deal as part of a busy offseason that also included additions like running back Le'Veon Bell and wide receiver Jamison Crowder.
The Jets were expected to contend for a playoff spot thanks to their offseason acquisitions, but that has not come to fruition, as Gang Green is just 1-5 through the first seven weeks of the season and is coming off of an embarrassing 33-0 loss to the New England Patriots.
Mosley spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, making four Pro Bowl appearances. During that time, the 27-year-old missed just three games, so being sidelined for an extended period is foreign territory for Mosley.
