There is no question that Sam Darnold is the quarterback of the future for the New York Jets. After being drafted with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Darnold has already taken over the starting job. His long-term position is not in question, but how he is being coached may very well be a concern.

According to a report from ESPN's Josina Anderson, there is a potential disagreement within the Jets' organization about the way that Darnold is being coached.

“There seems to be an internal debate with how he’s being coached, specifically the approach with offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates.”

Anderson went on to articulate that some believe the Jets' offensive coordinator should simplify the offense a bit more. That would make Darnold feel a bit more comfortable and allow him to come along at a bit of a slower pace.

Darnold has shown quite a few flashes of brilliance throughout the first three games of the season. His numbers may not be amazing, but the Jets have to feel good about the future of their young quarterback.

He has completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 701 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions.

New York needs to figure out which direction they want to go soon. If they want to simplify the offense, they need to do it before the season drags on too much longer. Give Darnold as much time as possible to get used to the system that he is playing in and then let him develop.

Expect to see the Jets continue having up-and-down moments throughout the remainder of the season. Darnold is not going to play like a superstar this season, but the Jets simply need him to develop consistency and as quickly as possible.
