Walking into Notre Dame Stadium in anticipation of Saturday evening's matchup against the Fighting Irish, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was greeted by traveling fans with a chant of “JETS JETS JETS,” per Pete Sampson of The Athletic, as the likely destination for the presumptive number-one 2021 NFL Draft pick.

Having entered the college season as the heavy favorite be picked first in next year's amateur selection, Lawrence has only solidified his draft prospects thus far, in leading the Tigers to an undefeated record while accumulating 17 touchdown passes, and having thrown only two interceptions. That, combined with the state of the New York franchise—who remain winless through the first half of the NFL season—has caused many observers to speculate on the potential for Lawrence to be drafted by the Jets, should he choose to enter the pros.

Although he remains expected to declare for the draft following the conclusion of the college football season, there does remain the possibility that Lawrence chooses to return to Clemson for his senior year, due to concerns over the state of the AFC franchise in the event that they do in fact hold, the No. 1 pick.

Although the junior was in attendance for the game, he will be unable to participate due to an earlier diagnosis of COVID-19. Though he failed to get medical clearance to play, head coach Dabo Swinney explained that the QB was allowed to be on the sideline for the match, due to Trevor Lawrence having cleared the ACC's 10-day isolation protocol, a milestone he would have reached on Thursday.
