The New York Jets have acquired offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif from the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.

The Jets are sending backup tight end Daniel Brown to Kansas City.

NFL Network's Tom Peliserro first reported the deal.

As you'll notice in Pelissero's tweet, he refers to Duvernay-Tardif as “Dr.” Duvernay-Tardif opted out of the 2020 NFL season to work at a long-term care facility outside of his hometown in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

It was the first move of the NFL trade deadline.

Duvernay-Tardif, who was one of the longest-tenured players on the Chiefs, last played in Super Bowl LIV, on Feb. 2, 2020. He suffered a hand injury this past preseason and lost the starting right guard role to rookie Trey Smith. He's been a healthy scratch since.

At long last, the guard was activated for the Chiefs Week 8 win over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football — which seemed like a chance to get him on the field before the NFL trade deadline — though he didn't play a snap. It's unclear what his role will be for the Jets, who face the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football.

The Jets' offensive line has largely struggled this season, thanks in part to the injury to LT Mekhi Becton.

Duvernay-Tardif, 30, spent seven seasons with the Chiefs, appearing in 60 games.

Brown, 29, has been a mainstay on the Jets' special teams units this season. He's played 13 offensive snaps and hasn't caught a pass. For his career, he has 44 receptions and four TDs across stints with the Jets, Baltimore Ravens, and Chicago Bears.
