The Green Bay Packers' season ended on a sour note as they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008. As a result, there are expected to be a bevy of changes to the Packers' organization this offseason.

McCarthy is now signed through the 2019 season after he was initially expected to enter next year without an extension. It appears the Packers wanted to keep the deal under wraps until the offseason.

McCarthy certainly brings some stability to Green Bay, especially with the firing of defensive coordinator Dom Capers earlier this week and Ted Thompson leaving his post as general manager. Thompson has since agreed to become the team's senior adviser to football operations.

While it is essentially the beginning of a new era for the Packers, it seems they did their due diligence in making sure to keep the combo of McCarthy and superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers around for at least two more seasons, and likely beyond.
