The Philadelphia Eagles were dealt what at the time was thought to be a devastating blow to their Super Bowl aspirations last year when MVP candidate Carson Wentz went down with a season-ending knee injury.

Fortunately for Philadelphia, Nick Foles proved to be an ideal backup for Wentz as he led the team to a Super Bowl title. Now, however, Wentz is focusing on his future and getting back under center as quickly as possible. Although the injury happened on a running play, Wentz maintains he's not changing anything regarding his style of play, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com.

“I definitely won't change, so to speak. That has what made me successful this last season and my whole career,” Wentz said. “It is something I've learned since coming into the league — how to protect myself … I am not going to let this change me.”

Before going down with the injury that ended his season prematurely, Wentz was widely regarded as the favorite to win the NFL MVP award. The versatile quarterback played consistently well from week to week making plays with his arm and his legs. Wentz very well could've beaten out Tom Brady for the regular-season award as he proved to many that he's a rising star in this NFL with a bright future ahead.

Although Wentz is already considered among the league's elite at the quarterback position, suffering a knee injury on a running play is cause for concern. His style of play makes him more prone to injuries like any quarterback in the league with the ability to make plays with rushing as well as through the air.

It'll be interesting to see if Doug Pederson and company urge him to be more of a pocket passer and limit his scrambling to avoid injuries.
