The lucrative contracts recently bagged by San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce upheaved the value of the tight end position from a financial standpoint. The Philadelphia Eagles have two prolific tight ends of their own in Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.
Ertz still has two years left on his contract while Goedert will be able to sign an extension by the end of the 2020 season.
Goedert sees the rising tide as a good opportunity for the tight end position moving forward:
“Zach deserves a contract here, he’s been here, been a top-three tight end in the league. Personally, I believe he’s been the best in the league for the last bunch of years, so he definitely deserves whatever he’s about to get, and I’ve just got to let this year play out,” Goedert said, via Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It’s not even time to worry about the future. The last two years, me and Zach have been here, we’ve both played good football, we’ve been in the playoffs. I think we can do whatever we want when that time comes, but for him, excited to see what he can do.”
Zach Ertz is an eight-year veteran who has built his name in the city of Philadelphia. He went to three Pro Bowl trips and won the Super Bowl LII title over the New England Patriots where he scored the game-winning touchdown. Being one of the elder statesmen in the team, he posted respectable tallies of 88 receptions for 916 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns last season.
Goedert, on the other hand, is a third-year player who is currently seeing an upward trend in his individual numbers. He accounted for 607 receiving yards on 58 receptions and 5 scored touchdowns through 15 games played as a back-up to Ertz.
Both players were crucial in the Eagles' run last season and will continue to be in the upcoming seasons. Their future with the Philly-based team is yet to be seen but the recent paychecks received by their fellow tight ends are good signs for them.
