Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz remains a non-participant at training camp while dealing with a soft tissue/lower body injury. Head coach Doug Pederson has been able to provide an update on his status.
According to Mike Kaye in NJ.com, Pederson revealed that Wentz's injury is not deemed to be too serious and he is fully expected to play in the Eagles' season opener against the Washington Football Team:
“Well, obviously what Carson is working through right now is nothing major,” Pederson said. “It’s minor. It’s day-to-day. This is actually a good time for this week, to rest. As you know, if we played a game on Thursday, a pre-season game, he wouldn’t play this week anyway. All the backups would go.”
“I have no issues of where Carson is, where he’s headed,” Pederson said. “He’ll be ready to go.”
It is encouraging to see that Wentz's recent absence from practice is just a precautionary measure being taken by the Eagles. With the start of the 2020 campaign just weeks away, the last thing they need is for their franchise player to suffer any setbacks.
There is no question that Wentz's track record with injuries leaves much to be desired. This may have played a role in the Eagles taking quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft in an effort to groom a quality backup.
