The Philadelphia Eagles are considering Hines Ward for their wide receivers coach job, according to Paul Domowitch of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Ward just completed his first season as an offensive assistant for the New York Jets, and because Ward is not a primary assistant, the Eagles would not need to ask the Jets for permission to interview him.

Of course, Ward is most known for his lengthy career as a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 43-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was originally selected by the Steelers in the third round (92nd pick overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft.

He played in all 16 games during his rookie campaign, but his role was limited, as he logged just 15 catches for 246 yards. His role within the offense then expanded quite a bit during his second season, as he caught 61 passes for 638 yards and seven touchdowns.

By Ward's fourth season, he was a Pro Bowler after snaring 94 balls for 1,003 yards while reaching the end zone four times.

That began a streak of four straight 1,000-yard campaigns as well as four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances for Ward, with his best season coming in 2002 when he registered 112 grabs for 1,329 yards and 12 touchdowns.

His production tapered off a bit from 2005 through 2007, but the South Korea native then put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2008 and 2009, posting 1,043 yards in the former year and 1,167 yards in the latter.

Ward, who won a pair of Super Bowl titles with the Steelers in 2005-06 and 2008-09, retired after the 2011 season.
