The Philadelphia Eagles have locked down a key member of their secondary for the foreseeable future. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles and cornerback Avonte Maddox have come to terms on a new three-year contract extension. Maddox will earn $22.5 million over the course of his new contract, including $13.3 million in guaranteed money.

Maddox was drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Pittsburgh, where he spent four seasons. He's featured in 45 games for the Birds, starting 25 of them. Across his career, Maddox has recorded three interceptions, 170 tackles, 21 pass defenses, and 2.5 sacks. He's started just two games this season, but still sees a significant amount of playing time at the slot corner position, where he's proven to be a valuable asset for the team.
The 25-year-old defensive back is the fourth player from his draft class to sign an extension with the Eagles. He joins the likes of tight end Dallas Goedert, defensive end Josh Sweat, and offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, all of whom have signed a new deal with the team this year. Goedert, who is Maddox's roommate and close friend, signed a four-year, $54 million deal on Friday. Maddox didn't have to wait too long to be celebrating a new deal of his own, as he put pen to paper on Saturday morning.
Maddox's new deal will keep him in Philadelphia through the 2024 season. With fellow DB Darius Slay already under contract through 2023, the team's secondary looks formidable with some key pieces locked in for the future.
