The Philadephia Eagles as a team are having a down season, but one guy who is blowing past expectations is tight end Zach Ertz who is on pace to break the record for catches by a tight end in a season. Ertz already has 84 catches for 895 yards with five games remaining.  Ertz only needs seven more catches to break Brian Westbrook's franchise record for catches in a season, but that is just the beginning of the milestones he can reach.

Jason Witten holds the record for catches in a season by a tight end coming in at 110. Right now Ertz is averaging 7.6 catches per game, and if he keeps up that pace, he will finish the season at 122. Ertz is also on pace for over 1,300 receiving yards, something a tight end with 100 catches has ever done.

On Tuesday, offensive coordinator Mike Groh was asked about his star tight end, and he had nothing but good things to say.

“Well, he’s a big guy and he’s got excellent play strength, a really good catch radius and strong hands,” Groh said of Ertz via Pro Football Talk. “So he can catch it away from his body, and even in those tight spaces like you talk about, he’s able to create a little bit more space for himself by using his body and his length. He’s got absolutely fantastic hands, so Carson has a lot of confidence in that and puts it in the right spot for him to be able to make a play.”

If Ertz does break these records, it will probably spell good things for the Eagles who are in a battle to even get back to the playoffs.
