The Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers renew their historic rivalry on Sunday Night Football. The storyline coming into the game was Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers taking on the Packers for the first time. After 18 seasons with a Super Bowl nd four MVPs, Rodgers left before the 2023 season. He found DK Metcalf at the end of the first half for his first touchdown against Green Bay in his career.

Rodgers led three field goal drives to start the game, with Chris Boswell hitting all three attempts. But with time ticking down in the second quarter, he turned back the clock to lead a nine-play, 84-yard touchdown drive. He found his new top target, DK Metcalf, on a slant from the two-yard line for the score. It is their fifth touchdown connection this year.

Rodgers did not consider this a revenge game when asked before the matchup. Despite reports indicating that the Steelers want Rodgers back, he said he would like to retire with the Packers. As one of the great passers in Green Bay history, they would likely want him back despite Jordan Love's status as the franchise quarterback.

The Steelers caught a huge break on Sunday with the Cincinnati Bengals blowing a fourth-quarter lead to the Jets. At 3-5, Cincinnati is well behind Pittsburgh, and the gap they closed last Thursday night has been widened again. Rodgers could be back in the postseason for the first time since 2021 if he keeps up his strong play to start the season.

The Steelers also made the trade for Metcalf this offseason. Formerly of the Seattle Seahawks, Metcalf was one of the best receivers on the market this offseason. After two years of failing to build a strong relationship with Garrett Wilson in New York, Rodgers is working things out with Metcalf early on.
