The Pittsburgh Steelers' redemption tour did not exactly get off to a great start in Week 1, as they were hammered by the New England Patriots by a score of 33-3 on Sunday night.

Afterward, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger took full responsibility for the loss.

“I wasn't good enough,” said Roethlisberger, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “I wasn't giving guys balls where they needed to catch them. Put them in front, behind, things like that. So, just — I wasn't good enough.”

Roethlisberger completed just 27 of his 47 passes for 276 yards and an interception in what was an overall anemic offensive performance for Pittsburgh.

Obviously, Roethlisberger was far from the only problem, but the fact that the 37-year-old taking blame is significant, as he was heavily criticized this offseason for constantly passing the buck.

But anyone could have shouldered the blame for this one.

James Conner rushed for just 21 yards on 10 carries. The Steelers' defense logged just one sack. Tom Brady lit Pittsburgh up for 341 yards and three touchdowns, with those of those scores going to Phillip Dorsett.

For a Steelers defense that was among the NFL's best in 2018, this was certainly not an impressive debut, and one can even go as far to say that it was somewhat surprising.

Pittsburgh went 9-6-1 and missed the playoffs in what was a very disappointing season last year, but after trading Antonio Brown in March, the Steelers hoped that a cleaner locker room would pay dividends.

Apparently, it hasn't worked thus far.

Things won't get much easier for Pittsburgh next week, as it was play host to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon.
