Now that Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Darius Slay and wide receiver DK Metcalf are teammates, they’ve put their differences behind them. The Steelers signed Metcalf to a five-year, $150 million deal to bolster the team’s offense by adding the veteran wide receiver. However, Slay had a brief dust-up with DK a few years ago that he talked about recently, as the two have dropped the short-lived beef.

Slay described how the friction between the two started as a misunderstanding shortly after Darius was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, per Not Just Football with Cam Heyward.

“This is the story. We were on the sideline. First of all, it’s COVID, so everybody hears everything. We’re just chilling, laughing. I’m talking to Lockett,” Slay said. “Locket is a good friend of mine as well. So, BG, you know BG, I know you know BG. He’s a big instigator. So I just got traded over there to Philly, and he just told DK he’s going to get locked up. But he’s not knowing that I’m talking to Lockett. Lockett said something funny, and I laughed at Lockett. So, while I’m laughing at Locket, BG is saying Slay going to lock you up.”

Metcalf, a member of the Seattle Seahawks, at the time, was fired up because of Eagles’ DE Brandon Graham’s instigating.

“So, he thought I was laughing about the fact that BG said I was going to lock him up, and then he just came out here with all this gorilla attitude like he’s just mad at the world,” Slay added. “I’m like we’re playing football. But you know we handled that.”

Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has challenged the Steelers’ DK Metcalf to get the best out of him ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Metcalf spoke on Rodgers’ influence amidst training camp as the two have become acclimated to their new surrounding with the Steelers.

Metcalf explained how Rodgers’ approach has helped him through the early stages of his tenure with the Steelers.

“He’ll challenge me on the field, off the field,” said Metcalf. “Throwing signals at me. Asking me questions in the hallway. Trying to see what I would do against different coverages. So, it’s always a learning experience for me.”

In their second preseason matchup, Metcalf, Slay, Rodgers, and the Steelers will host the Buccaneers on Saturday.
