Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner is expected to play in Week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Conner has missed the last three games due to a high ankle sprain, but he practiced fully three times this week. Although, the Steelers are still planning to see how his ankle responds after pregame warmups just to make sure if he truly is good to go.

Conner has been a big loss for the Steelers during the past few weeks and has likely factored into their late-season slump. Through 12 games this season, the second-year running back has racked up 909 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns. He’s also added 52 catches for 467 receiving yards and a touchdown as he earned his first career Pro Bowl selection.

Rookie Jaylen Samuels has been filling in as the starting running back in Conner’s absence. Samuels had a monstrous performance in their home win over the New England Patriots in Week 15 as he had 142 rushing yards in just 19 carries.

However, he was limited to 53 rushing yards and one receiving touchdown in last week’s loss to the Saints.

Apart from Conner, the Steelers offense is also sweating on the availability of Antonio Brown. The star wideout has been dealing with knee soreness and the Steelers are reportedly not optimistic that he will be able to play.

If Brown does miss out, the likes of Conner and wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster will have to step up as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s primary playmakers against the Bengals, who are short of offensive weapons themselves.
