Since the start of the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams have been quite busy reshaping their roster to build off their most successful campaign that featured their first playoff appearance in over a decade. Much of the focus from the front office has been on adding pieces to the puzzle on the defensive side of the ball.

Los Angeles has continued to be active in free agency with their own free agents looking to keep them aboard next season. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the team has begun contract negotiations with veteran defensive tackle Dominique Easley.

The 2017 season of Rams defensive lineman Dominique Easley became derailed in August, when he suffered a torn ACL. Now a free agent, Easley could be sticking around.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Rams and Easley are negotiating a new contract.

Easley had missed the entire 2017 season due to a torn ACL that he suffered in August. He was coming off a promising first campaign with the Rams that saw him step into an important role on the defensive line playing in all 16 regular-season games for the first time in his career while recording career highs across the board with 35 total tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He has notched his first career multi-sack game during that season.

Los Angeles had brought him aboard last in the 2016 offseason after he was cut by the New England Patriots after just two seasons. The team had placed an original-round tender of $1.797 million to keep Easley for another year. There is no certainty that Easley will be able to recapture his 2016 form, but the fact that the Rams are looking to work out a new deal with him shows that believe he can be an effective player in their defensive scheme.

The front office will likely look to commit to another one-year deal with the 25-year-old in order for him to prove himself first before committing to a longer contract.
