San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is coming off of a spectacular 2018 campaign in which he broke the single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end with 1,377 yards to go along with 88 receptions and five touchdowns.
What, then, will he do for an encore?
Well, ESPN feels that he will have another monster season in 2019, predicting that he will catch 78 passes for 1,142 yards and five scores.
That would unquestionably put Kittle in line for a second straight Pro Bowl appearance just three years into his NFL career.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Iowa, was originally selected by the 49ers in the fifth round (146th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He played in 15 games during his rookie campaign, snaring 43 balls for 515 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
Had Kittle merely posted those types of numbers for the rest of his career, he would have already exceeded the expectations of most, as he was not all that productive at Iowa.
Kittle's best collegiate season came during his senior campaign when he finished with a pedestrian 22 catches for 314 yards and four scores, and throughout his NCAA career overall, Kittle totaled 48 receptions for 737 yards while reaching the end zone 10 times.
So, basically, Kittle nearly doubled his output in terms of receptions and yards over all four of his collegiate campaigns in just one NFL season in 2018, a truly incredible feat.
San Francisco won four games this past season and has not made the playoffs since the 2013 campaign.
