Two and a half hours before the NFC Championship Game, first responders found San Francisco 49ers fan, Daniel Luna, severely injured in a SoFi Stadium parking lot. Luna, a 40-year-old restaurant owner, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Hospital medical staff tended to his serious upper body and facial injuries before placing him into a medically induced coma.

Shortly after the incident, the 49ers released a statement, extending thoughts and prayers to Luna and his care team.

Now, over a month after the January 30 incident, Luna is on his road to recovery.

According to Bay Area news outlet KTVU, the 49ers fan is no longer in the medically induced coma and is expected to be discharged before the end of March.

However, Luna has a long road ahead of him. KTVU spoke to the restaurant owner's family friend, Sam Singer, who said that Luna is “significantly disabled.”

“There was a period of time when he may not have survived, he may have died. There was a belief that he might not ever walk again or be able to function. So his friends, his family are incredibly relieved by what’s going on,” Singer said.

The family friend provided a video of Luna shooting basketballs with the help of a physical therapist.

Authorities were able to piece together exactly what happened with the help of surveillance footage of the SoFi Stadium parking lot.

It appears that Luna shoved Bryan Alexis Rossel Cifuentes first from behind, which prompted the 33-year-old to punch Luna in the head. Cifuentes was charged with one felony count of battery with serious bodily injury, and his arraignment will take place at Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 29.
