Jalen Hurd's acclimation to the NFL may take even longer than that of other first-year players. The good news, though, is that injuries won't be the reason why. On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers' third-round pick put to rest concerns that he wouldn't be ready to play in his team's rookie mini-camp.
“Knee is good,” he said, per Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area. “I'll be ready to go.”
Hurd, from Baylor, suffered a minor knee injury in a victory over Texas Tech on November 24th. He underwent knee surgery in early December and was limited throughout the pre-draft process, casting doubt on his ability to participate in mini-camp.
On Day 2 of the NFL Draft, after his team selected Hurd with the 67th overall pick, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said his knee “looks very good” while electing against commenting on his availability for camp.

Hurd starred at running back for Tennessee before transferring to Baylor after his junior season. In 2018, his first time seeing game action at wide receiver, he led the Bears with 69 catches for 946 yards and four scores. Hurd also rushed 48 times for 209 yards and three touchdowns.
One of the most versatile talents in the NFL, Hurd will be a force to be reckoned with should he reach his potential. But he has a long way to go before doing so, which makes it all the more important Hurd is healthy enough to participate in offseason activities leading up to training camp.
