The San Francisco 49ers' offense fell flat in Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season opener. As a result, Hall of Famer Jerry Rice feels they should give free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant a call.

Bryant remains without a team with the season in full swing. Rice feels his experience could be a valuable asset to San Francisco, via TMZ Sports.

“I think he can help us with experience and knowledge about the game,” Rice said.

Rice's comments are not too far-fetched. San Francisco made a similar addition this offseason with cornerback Richard Sherman. The 49ers were in desperate need of both when they were being locked down by the Minnesota Vikings' defense.

There had been plenty of hype surrounding the 49ers going into the 2018 campaign. At the forefront of this optimism was the emergence of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Unfortunately, Garoppolo ran into a buzz-saw of a Vikings defense, and it has become clear that the offense still has a ways to go. Despite his talent, he still does not have a definitive favorite receiver in San Francisco. Aside from a stellar connection with wide receiver Dante Pettis, tight end George Kittle was his most targeted pass-catcher. Outside of Pettis, no other wideout registered more than 28 yards.

The lingering status of wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is just further proof that they need more depth. Although he is hardly the playmaker he once was, Bryant's skill set could be of great use to the 49ers. His size also makes him an easy target for Garoppolo in the red zone.
