When Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a torn ACL early last season, it derailed most of the San Francisco 49ers hopes for the year. With Garoppolo slowly working his way back from the injury, though, the team can begin to hope once again that their young quarterback can lead the group through a competitive NFC conference and back into the postseason.

During the team's final minicamp practice this month, Garoppolo received just one rep of 11-on-11 work, with more reps coming to an end thanks to defensive pressure from the 49ers front seven. While Kyle Shanahan isn’t looking to push things just yet, the quarterback is excited to see what’s to come and knows things will ramp up quickly.

“I think all of that will come with time,” Garoppolo said (via Pro Football Talk). “I’ll try to implement as many drills as I can during these 40 days or so. But, I think once the bullets start flying and everything, then we’ll really see.”

Garoppolo said that he wouldn’t know whether he’s entirely back to his normal self until the end of the offseason training camp, so there’s still time to go. However, he did note that he will spend time before training camp working with his quarterback coaches and wide receivers, to fast-track some of the chemistry that the team was unable to develop last year.

After a disappointing 2018 season, the 49ers come into 2019 with an intriguing core. Along with Nick Bosa and Garoppolo, the 49ers boast a young and versatile defense and offensive weapons that play more than well enough to keep the team afloat in a tough NFC. With the NFC West as competitive as it ever has been, the 49ers will be hoping that Garoppolo can quickly return to form and help San Francisco contend once again.
