It's been two months since it was reported that wide receiver Deebo Samuel had asked the San Francisco 49ers to trade him, but as things stand, he is still a Niner, and that doesn't seem to be changing any time soon, if you believe what general manager John Lynch said recently, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

49ers’ GM John Lynch, when asked at last night’s “Dwight Clark Legacy Series” event, about Deebo Samuel’s status with the team: “We haven't traded him, and I'd be a fool to trade him, so yes, Deebo will be part of the 49ers this season.”

That's as clear of a message as any about the chances of the 49ers parting ways with Samuel via a trade. Samuel is coming off a sensational 2021 NFL season in which he posted 1,405 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 77 receptions — all career highs. Moreover, Samuel also impacted the 49ers' rushing attack, as he came away with 365 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on just 59 carries. He was basically the most productive player downfield last season for San Francisco and its most effective rushing weapon.

Samuel is looking for a big payday AKA a massive extension deal as he is about to become an unrestricted free agent by the end of the 2022 NFL season. Whether the 49ers will give that to him or use the franchise tag on the receiver is something that is worth waiting for.
