Rumors began circulating recently regarding John Lynch's future as the San Francisco 49ers GM. During a press conference on Tuesday, Lynch shot down any gossip about a potential departure from the Niners, and even discussed some future plans for the organization. Among the points Lynch touched upon were the contracts of star players Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa, and his comments will have Niners fans feeling optimistic about the future. Via Nick Wagoner, Lynch revealed that there are plans in place to extend both players' contracts with the team.
#49ers GM John Lynch says that a contract extension for WR Deebo Samuel and DE Nick Bosa are priorities. "We fully understand that these guys are pillars of what we do here." No timeline on either but planning/budgeting has been done to get deals done with both players.

Lynch didn't even try to downplay the importance of both Samuel and Bosa to the Niners' success, indicating that the two stars were “pillars” of the team's foundation and that he expects that to be the case for some time to come. Lynch revealed that while there's no current timeline for the deals to get done, the team has been planning and budgeting while taking into account future contract extensions for the duo.
It certainly would have been a shock for the 49ers not to have plans to extend their best offensive weapon and their most dangerous pass rusher. Lynch has all but confirmed that those moves are in the works, putting an end to any inklings that a deal may not come to fruition. Of course, nothing is certain until pen touches paper, but Lynch's comments absolutely suggest the Niners have made it a priority to retain both Samuel and Bosa for the long haul.
In 2021, Samuel caught 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 365 rushing yards and eight touchdowns via the ground. Bosa, on the other hand, racked up 52 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss (a league-best), and four forced fumbles.
