San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Kentavius Street is likely headed to injured reserve because of arthroscopic knee surgery. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said that Street will undergo the knee surgery on Friday and after that, they will probably place him on IR.
“We haven’t decided that for sure, but it’s definitely the most likely,” Shanahan said on Tuesday via NBC Sports.
Street suffered a torn ACL during a workout with the New York Giants before last years draft. The 49ers still drafted him in the 4th round knowing that he would miss all of last season recovering from the injury.
The expectation was this year he would be back to full strength this year, but according to Shanahan, he has dealt with knee pain all offseason.

This isn't the worse loss the 49ers could have suffered, but they are still losing a solid rotational player that the team is going to miss.
The 49ers could also be without rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd for the season opener as he tries to work his way back fro ma back injury.
“I don’t know,” Shanahan said. “I wouldn’t have thought that a week ago but it’s still lingering and it’s definitely legit, so, we are going to rest it again this whole week and then we will probably reassess it on Monday and see where he’s at.”
