Linebacker Kwon Alexander signed with the San Francisco 49ers at the start of the offseason, and he couldn't be happier that he is now playing in the Bay Area.
“It's been a blessing,” Alexander said during an interview on KNBR's Tolbert and Lund Podcast. “All of the fans welcomed me and I'm just happy to be here, ready to get the job done.”
Alexander spent the 2018 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing in just six games due to a torn ACL. During the time he was on the field, he registered 45 tackles, a sack, and a couple of forced fumbles.
The 24-year-old did not expect the 49ers to be that aggressive in their approach, but he is glad things worked out the way they did.
“I was surprised, but I just knew they knew I was a baller and I love the game and what I bring to the game,” Alexander said. “Everything happens for a reason… you put the hard work in, you can come back from an ACL injury and come back and sign.”
Alexander, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Buccaneers in the fourth round (124th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.
He had a terrific rookie season, finishing with 93 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and nine passes defended. Then, the following year, Alexander broke out, racking up 145 tackles, three sacks, a pick, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, seven passes defended, and a defensive touchdown.
The Oxford, Al. native then made his first Pro Bowl in 2017, totaling 97 tackles, three interceptions, and a forced fumble.
