The San Francisco 49ers suffered a huge blow as a game-changer in defensive end Nick Bosa recently sustained a season-ending torn ACL injury. According to ESPN, he is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his torn ACL and cartilage damage in his knee this upcoming week in Los Angeles.

The prolific sophomore was previously carted off the field in their game against the New York Jets. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, running back Raheem Mostert, defensive end Dee Ford, and defensive tackle Solomon Thomas all sustained injuries during the team's Week 2 matchup. Despite being undermanned, the 49ers relied on their backups and still managed to carve out a 31-13 win against the Jets.

Tight end George Kittle, running back Tevin Coleman, cornerback Richard Sherman, and linebacker Dre Greenlaw round out the team's long injury list in the early stages of the season.

With Bosa and Ford both out for an extended amount of time, defensive end Arik Armstead and newly-acquired veteran Ziggy Ansah will have to step up to fortify the 49ers' defensive line. On the other side of the field, sophomore wide receiver Deebo Samuel along with rookie pass-catcher Brandon Aiyuk are both looking to make their return on their field in the coming weeks.

At the end of the day, the team remains optimistic that Bosa will be able to return in time for next season but his status will ultimately depend on the progression of his surgery and rehab.

Additional cartilage damages were also found in his knee but the team continues to put their trust on Bosa that he will come back stronger after the devastating injury.
