The San Francisco 49ers have been put in a tough situation under center after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL in the fourth quarter of Week 3's action against the Kansas City Chiefs.

This has put the front office and coaching staff in the position of having to assess what direction they want to head in when it comes to bringing in a veteran quarterback to help alleviate the situation. According to NFL reporter Jim Trotter, San Francisco currently has no plans to add another player at the position, but that remains a possibility down the road.

Matt Moore reportedly turned down a workout opportunity, while Tom Savage, Kellen Clemens, T.J. Yates and Matt Simms are getting a look. For now, though, San Francisco is promoting Nick Mullens from the practice squad to be C.J. Beathard's backup.

The 49ers appear to be more than confident that Beathard can bring a steady level of production and stability in place of Garoppolo that should be enough to push the team forward toward competing for wins. However, in six games played last season, Beathard recorded 1,430 passing yards on a 54.2 completion percentage along with four touchdowns and six interceptions. He struggled to push the 49ers to consistent success as the team dropped five out of those contests.

Naturally, the team is open to the possibility of bringing aboard a veteran quarterback if things don't go as hoped with Beathard under center. He has a clear understanding of the playbook, but his ability on the field may not be what the 49ers are looking for with Garoppolo sidelined. Even if Beathard does well, don't be surprised to see a veteran come in for depth purposes.
