The San Francisco 49ers aren't exactly the team you would think of as a team that is worth trading assets for. However, the last couple of weeks have proven that they have what a number of NFL teams have been looking for.
The 49ers have incredible depth in the quarterback position. Their QBs from the started to the third-string option have enough quality to perform rather well on other NFL teams.
In fact, some teams have reached out to them for trade offers regarding one of their QBs.
“In the last week there was a lot of interest, a lot of conversations,” Lynch said, per Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee. “That position, to us, is one that you set a price and you stay firm on it. And so while we had discussions, we never deviated from what that price was for us, and nobody ever met it.”
“We believe [quarterback] is a great position to be in a position of strength,” Lynch said. “And we feel from our starter to Jimmy on down to the other two, that it is a great position of strength, not that we weren’t open to [a trade]. But a certain price had to be met, but it wasn’t.”
There are plenty of teams that need improvement in the depth of their QB position. The team with the most obvious need, however, has to be the Indianapolis Colts. They are still reeling from the loss of Andrew Luck and can use the plays of either C.J. Beathard or Nick Mullens.
However, since not a single team has given them what they want, they sit and wait. And they'll definitely leverage their incredible QB depth to get the trade they want as Opening Day looms closer.
