Hall of Famer Jerry Rice was without a doubt one of the best players in NFL history. Rice is widely considered to be the cream crop at the wide receiver position with players to this day still trying to emulate what he was able to accomplish on the football field during his prime years with the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.

At 55, Rice made an appearance in ESPN's Body Issue and is still clearly in great shape. The legendary wideout walked away from the game 13 years ago after cementing his legacy as a three-time Super Bowl champion with the distinction of being the best player the league has ever seen at his position. Although it has been close to a decade and a half since he called it a career, the Mississippi Valley State product thinks he could still play in the league today if he wanted to, via ESPN's Hallie Grossman.

“I still feel like today, if I wanted to come back to football and play football, I could do it, at the age of 55. I'm one of those guys that I still believe that if I wanted to, I could come back, catch over 80 balls and really be productive on the field. … I think I'm still explosive, and I think I still can beat up on some defenses.”

Rice's comments are timely considering Terrell Owens trying to do everything within his power to get another chance in the NFL at 44 years old. Owens, much like Rice, is statistically among the best players in NFL history at wide receiver and still in incredible shape well after his retirement.

However, the reality is that teams in the league won't be calling either Hall of Famer anytime soon despite their confidence. Rice isn't lobbying for a team to give him a call, but who knows when Owens might end his pursuit for another opportunity.
