The NFL on Friday announced that Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was fined $10,000 for improperly entering the playing field in the scuffle near the tail end of last Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Along with Carroll, two Jaguars coaches — offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and wide receivers coach Keenan McCardell — were also hit with fines. Both Seahawks defensive linemen Quinton Jefferson and Sheldon Richardson were each fined $9,115 each for unnecessary roughness.
Seahawks offensive lineman Germain Ifedi was fined $24,309 for verbal abuse of a referee while Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette was fined $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct. This notably left out Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett from those receiving fines from the league.
According to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, Carroll voiced on Friday that he wasn't surprised that Michael Bennett was not fined by the NFL.
Pete Carroll said he wasn't surprised Michael Bennett didn't get fined, saying again Bennett was merely trying to swipe the ball: “Yeah, he did what I said he did. That’s what happened there and then they got tangled up a little bit.’’

On the play in question, Bennett had appeared to roll into the knees of Jaguars center Brandon Linder, which led to the scuffle between both teams. The Pro Bowl defensive end may have been trying to make a play, but the timing and angle of his hit simply gave off a different perception.
It was a play that saw things get quickly out of hand, and Bennett's action played a part of it being that he was trying to make a play on the ball. This was a difficult play for the league to determine if the actions of many of the players deserved fines. Ultimately, the fact that Bennett avoided being fined speaks to the utter difficulty the NFL had in truly assessing the situation.
This will certainly result in a lot of backlash, as there are a contingent of National Football League fans who simply dislike Bennett (for various, and not all seemly, reasons).
What do you guys think? Should Michael Bennett been fined?
