The Seattle Seahawks released star cornerback Richard Sherman earlier this offseason, and he quickly signed with their division rival San Francisco 49ers. And now, the Seahawks have begun to fill the void left by Sherman’s departure by signing former Niners corner Dontae Johnson, per Mike Garafolo.
Seahawks are signing CB Dontae Johnson, who started all 16 games for the Niners last year, source says. So the NFC West rivals swapped starting CBs.
Johnson, 26, was a fourth-round pick by the 49ers back in 2014. After starting just six games in his first three seasons in the league, he finally got his big break as he started all 16 games for San Francisco last year. He racked up 76 total tackles with seven passes defended and an interception, which he returned all the way for a touchdown.

Johnson will now join a revamped Seahawks cornerback group that apart from Sherman also let go of long-time Legion of Boom members Jeremy Lane and Deshawn Shead this offseason. The Seahawks re-signed Justin Coleman at the end of last month to be a holdover from last year's group along with Shaquill Griffin.
Coleman, Griffin, and Johnson are currently expected to be the Seahawks’ top three corners for next season. All three are 25 years old or younger. Seattle was reportedly interested in bringing back veteran Byron Maxwell, although they have yet to strike a deal.
