Carmelo Anthony didn't have the best exit during his stint with the Denver Nuggets. When he returned to Mile High City in this year's NBA Playoffs, the Nuggets crowd welcomed him with open mouths, showering him with jeers.

Now, quite incidentally—and in a cruel twist of fate—the Nuggets, of all teams, handed Anthony an embarrassing record. After the Portland Trail Blazers got eliminated in Game 6 on Thursday, he suffered his 11th series defeat in the NBA Playoffs, tied with former guard Terry Porter for most in history.

Somewhere out there, Nuggets fans are toasting to the schadenfreude.

Anthony played decent off the bench for the Trail Blazers in Game 6, contributing 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 23 minutes. But Nikola Jokic, Michael Porter Jr., and company were just too much, hacking out a 126-115 victory. For the first time in team history, the Nuggets moved past the first round for the third consecutive year—something Anthony clearly failed to do.

The former Syracuse standout played eight seasons with the Nuggets but largely fell short of expectations. He was viewed as a messiah of sorts after being selected as the no. 3 overall pick in 2003. But aside from one Western Conference Finals appearance, the Anthony-led squad usually flamed out.

Anthony eventually demanded a trade, which brought him to the New York Knicks. This wasn't received well by many Nuggets fans, as they felt the high-scoring forward simply gave up on them. He recently addressed the hatred by Nuggets fans, saying he gave his all during his stint with the team.

His latest “milestone” should only give more ammunition to Nuggets fans.
