At this point in his career, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets isn't reading criticisms of him being out of shape.

“I don’t read anything anymore,” Jokic said, per Mike Singer of the Denver Post. “I stopped.”

“It doesn’t bother me,” Jokic said. “People are … they assume things, and they cannot be right or wrong. They’re just saying, if it’s wrong (shrug). If it’s good, if they are right, it’s a good thing.”

The criticisms started last year — when the Nuggets were piling up victory after victory. Inevitably, the team got the attention of the league. And the first player they looked at is the best player of the Nuggets: Nikola Jokic — the unassuming Serbian who, if not for his height, wouldn't be mistaken for a basketball player.

His weight has been the subject of jokes from both critics and fans. But as Jokic himself said, he doesn't care about these things anymore. He's not affected one bit by what people say about him. What's important that he's playing at an elite level, orchestrating the Nuggets offense en route to claiming that title.

And so far, the Nuggets have a 13-3 record. If they maintain this throughout the entire regular season, then they may have a shot at the Larry O'Brien trophy.
