On a cold Halloween night on Thursday, the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans faced off on national television in Denver.

In the early goings, the Pels jumped out to an early five-point lead, but the Nuggets responded in kind and held the game within two points heading into the second quarter.

The true highlight of the game in the early going was a truly nuclear one-handed dunk from Nuggets starting two guard Gary Harris against Pelicans big man Jahlil Okafor. Here’s the jam in question:

As you can see, Harris yokes it all over Okafor in a rather unexpected fashion. Harris is a cagy scorer and capable defender, but he is not known for his above-the-rim exploits. In fact, Harris only had one other dunk coming into the game against the Pelicans on Thursday night per Basketball Reference.

Okafor, who has slimmed down considerably during his tenure with the Pelicans, is a bit more mobile now than he was after being drafted 3rd overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2015. Still though, he was not quite mobile enough to be able to catch Harris at the rim with a highlight block. Instead, he got yammed on and was thoroughly posterized by the 6-foot-4 guard.

Through four games in the 2019-20 season, Harris is averaging 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 33.3 minutes a night. The Nuggets are 3-1 on the season, having recently lost to the Mavericks, while the Pellies are still winless at 0-4.
