The Ohio State football program secured a commitment from running back Isaiah West, continuing their recent successes on the recruiting trail.

West, a 4-star prospect according to 247Sports rankings, ranked as the country's No. 214 overall prospect, the No. 14 running back, and the No. 6 prospect in Pennsylvania.

Isaiah West choosing Ohio State over Kentucky

According to reports by On3's Hayes Fawcett, the Buckeyes have secured a commitment from West who opted for Ohio State after withdrawing his commitment from Kentucky earlier in the offseason.

West hails from St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, a school known for producing NFL talents such as Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift, Washington Commanders receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, and notably, former Ohio State standout Marvin Harrison Jr., who is embarking on his rookie season with the Arizona Cardinals.

During the previous season, West tallied 861 yards from scrimmage and scored a total of 10 touchdowns. His team achieved an impressive 13-1 record and secured a PIAA Class 6A state championship.

After receiving an offer from Ohio State football on May 13, West visited Columbus officially over the weekend.

West also received offers from programs such as Penn State, South Carolina, Boston College, North Carolina, West Virginia, Michigan State, UConn, and several others.

Isaiah West joins Cleveland's four-star running back Bo Jackson in Ohio State's 2025 recruiting class.

In 2024, Ohio State's running back corps is loaded with Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson set to handle the majority of the team's carries. Beyond Judkins and Henderson, the Buckeyes lack a running back with any collegiate carries, relying on freshmen Sam Williams-Dixon and James Peoples.

Henderson will finish his eligibility in 2024, and Judkins will be eligible for the NFL Draft after the following season. Ohio State's running back depth is in critical need of reinforcement after failing to secure additions in the 2023 recruiting class.

Having secured West, Ohio State now has two running backs committed for the class, having initially started with Jackson. The focus now shifts to potentially adding a third running back, with players like California's four-star recruit Jordon Davison or Florida's four-star recruit Byron Louis being potential candidates.

Ohio State's 2025 commits

The Buckeyes now have sixteen class of 2025 commitments. In addition to West, the Ohio State staff has commitments from Ohio quarterback Tavien St. Clair, Ohio running back Bo Jackson, New Jersey wide receivers Quincy Porter and De'Zie Jones, tight end Nate Roberts from Oklahoma, Ohio offensive tackle Carter Lowe, Pennsylvania defensive end Zahir Mathis, Florida defensive end London Merritt, Ohio linebacker Eli Lee, Florida linebacker Tarvos Alford, Texas cornerback Devin Sanchez, Alabama cornerback Na'eem Offord, safety Faheem Delane from Maryland, safety Cody Haddad from Ohio and New Jersey safety Deshawn Stewart.

Ohio State's 2025 class initially lacked a commitment from a running back until recently securing commitments from both Jackson and West. West joins an impressive recruiting class for Ohio State, which already includes three five-star prospects according to 247Sports' rankings: cornerback Sanchez and Offord, and quarterback St. Clair.

The 2024 season for Ohio State will begin with a game against Akron on Saturday, August 31st.
