The doping scandal surrounding 15-year-old Russian skater Kamila Valieva has been one of the biggest stories of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and things just took another twist when Valieva stumbled to a fourth-place finish in the individual event. The phenom slipped or fell at least four times during her routine and left the ice in tears.

Valieva was the heavy favorite to win the competition and is considered one of the best figure skaters in recent history, but her Olympic experience been shrouded in controversy because of her doping scandal. The medal ceremony for the team event, which Russia won, was postponed indefinitely because of a positive drug test from before the Olympics. She reportedly tested positive for three heart treatment drugs, including one banned as a performance-enhancing drug.

Despite this, it was determined that Valieva would be allowed to skate in the individual event. If she finished in the top three, though, there would be no medal ceremony.

Thanks to Valieva faltering under the pressure, that awkwardness has been avoided at these Olympics. Valieva's teammates took advantage of her failure, with Russians Anna Shcherbakova and Alexandra Trusova winning gold and silver, respectively.

This has been quite the whirlwind Olympics for Kamila Valieva, and now they've come to a disappointing end.
