Olympic volleyball silver medalist Kim Glass was assaulted by a homeless man in Los Angeles. She took to social media to describe the incident, per TMZ.
“As I was leaving lunch, I was outside, and I was saying goodbye to a friend,” Glass said. “This homeless man ran up, he had something in his hand… he just looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes. And, as I turned to go tell my friend, ‘I think something's, like, wrong with him and I think he's going to hit a car,' before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like pipe, hit me right here.”
“It happened so fast.”

As you can see in the above-posted image, Glass suffered a serious eye injury. Fortunately, her vision is not expected to be affected permanently from the incident. Regardless, this was undeniably a horrific event.
The suspect was reportedly arrested.
Glass won a silver medal for the US Olympic volleyball team during the 2008 olympics in Beijing. She is well-known amongst olympic volleyball fans.
Glass wrote a positive message on social media as well, expressing her gratitude for strangers who rushed to her aid following the incident, per the LA Times.
“As much as it scares us and reminds us of the crazy in the world or what we deem bad, that day also reminded me of all the beauty in the world — my friends/fam who had my back and the absolute strangers that came and didn’t leave my side. That’s the way people are and that’s the way community should work.”
