Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher wasn't too happy following yet another loss from the team on Tuesday, and he deflected much of that anger in the direction of the opposition. Gallagher was particularly annoyed with the antics of Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle, whom he accused of exaggerating his injuries in order to get a call from officials. Via SportsNet Canada, Gallagher called Stutzle's antics “embarrassing” while ripping into the 20-year-old.
“When I was 10 years old, our coach had a rule: if you lay on the ice and the trainers, or if the coach had to come on the ice to get you, you're too hurt to play minimum three shifts,” said Gallagher. “More than half the games we've played against him, he's laid on the ice and is right back out there the next shift. He lays on the ice, he acts like he's hurt, he sells the call, he's on the ice that same power play,” said Gallagher. “There's kids watching, we're role models, and if I was a teammate of his I'd tell him to smarten up.”
“It's just not a good look. Very talented player, very good player,” Gallagher continued. “He needs to stop laying on the ice. It's embarrassing.”
Gallagher was referencing a play on Tuesday during which Stutzle was hit against the boards by Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki. Stutzle went down to the ground in pain while his teammate got in the face of Suzuki for delivering the hit.
Gallagher mentioned he and Stutzle have squared off more than 12 times since the Senators‘ forward joined the league, and it's a trend he's seen far too often from the 20-year-old.
The Canadiens lost 6-3 against the Senators on Tuesday. Stutzle scored a goal in the win and had two shots on target. Gallagher, on the other hand, turned in a two-point performance in the loss, scoring a goal, his sixth of the year, and providing an assist.
