Legendary basketball powers such as scoring, passing, defense, leadership, awareness and vision—all of these and more are used to describe LeBron James.

It's time to add one more legendary attribute to the pile and it's a loaded word usually used to describe only a few: perspective.

James made sure to separate two important aspects of his life when speaking with the media on Saturday, as first reported by Marcus Sears of The Undefeated. He'd never compare the game of basketball with the adversity he suffered through as a youth.

“I can never compare the adversity I dealt with when I was younger to playing basketball,” LeBron James.

James, 33, makes this particular statement coming off one of the most disappointing NBA Finals results in history.

In Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals, James ripped off 51 points while adding eight assists and rebounds in each category. His 50-point game also came on just 32 shots from the floor (19-32), helping his Cavs to what looked like was going to be a splendid and shocking Game 1 victory.

Of course, the living basketball world knows what happened. The charge-block reversal, J.R. Smith's unexplainable antics and a horribly-played overtime provided the Golden State Warriors with the win.

Due to the all-too-real narrative, LeBron's been peppered with “overcoming adversity” questions. Considering how well he handles the media off-the-court, in describing basketball should never be taken too seriously by the way of “adversity” is concerned, it feels like the right approach to take.

Game 2 of the NBA Finals is set for Sunday night.
